How to edit the text in a PDF

Add the PDF. It opens in the PdfNib editor with the Edit text tool selected and every text block outlined.

Click a block and type. Change the font, size, colour or alignment in the Inspector if needed, or drag the layer to move the text.

Press Export PDF. The original text is removed from the page and yours is written in its place.

Frequently asked questions
- Is the old text really gone?
- Yes. PdfNib rewrites the page's drawing instructions without the letters you replaced, so the old words cannot be found by search or copied out. Text it cannot measure (a rare font with no width table) is covered with the page colour instead.
- Will the new text look the same?
- It uses the closest bundled font: Helvetica for sans-serif text, Noto Serif for serif text, and Noto fonts for Bangla, Hindi and Arabic. Size, colour, weight and line spacing are copied from the original, so short edits blend in; a different font is still a different font.
- Can I edit a scanned PDF?
- No. A scan is a picture of text. Run OCR first to make it searchable, then cover the old words with a white box and add new text, or use the redact tool.
- What about text in forms, headers and footers?
- Text drawn on the page, including inside reused header and footer blocks, can be edited. Text inside form fields and comments cannot yet.
- Is my document uploaded?
- No. Reading, editing and exporting all happen in your browser, and the editor works offline.
